Program Objectives
The objective of the Healthcare Unit Management program is to enhance and expand the knowledge of healthcare professionals in managing healthcare units (clinics, dental offices, pharmacies, hospitals, medical centers, diagnostic labs, microbiological laboratories, etc.) to improve decision-making effectiveness.
This program provides a modern and comprehensive accelerated curriculum, focusing on solving practical challenges in healthcare unit management, optimizing human and financial resources, monitoring financial performance, assessing the sustainability of healthcare units, fostering collaborations between healthcare facilities, and developing negotiation skills.
Particular emphasis is placed on international developments in the healthcare sector and their impact on the labor market.
Many healthcare professionals face organizational and managerial challenges in the administration of healthcare units, which are not covered in their undergraduate education.
Some of the key challenges they face include:
- Reduced profit margins
- Declining revenue
- Price fluctuations in pharmaceuticals
- Delayed payments from insurance funds
- Decreased liquidity
- Increased competition
- Entry of multinational chains into the Greek market
- Demographic changes
- Collaboration issues with other businesses, pharmaceutical warehouses, banks, and pharmaceutical companies
- Growing supplier debts, etc.
Most of these issues fall under business administration and are not covered in healthcare academic curricula. In other words, healthcare professionals lack financial and managerial expertise.
To address this need, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens offers a specialized educational program designed to equip healthcare professionals with the latest advancements, methods, and techniques in business management.
